Eliza Van Bibber School is seeking a dynamic and passionate educator who is looking to make a difference. Come join our amazing team of wonderful educators in Pelly Crossing. Pelly Crossing is a Self-Governing First Nation Community in Yukon. It lies where the Klondike Highway crosses the Pelly River. Pelly Crossing is the home of the Northern Tutchone Culture of Selkirk First Nation.


QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor of Education or equivalent with a strong background and academic training in English and Social Studies;

Experience teaching English or Social Studies at the secondary level (8-12);

Experience teaching multi-grades;

Experience in assessment for learning pedagogy and practice;

Experience in project based learning and hands on learning;

Experience in planning and co-teaching with other teachers and support specialists;

Experience in teaching music at the intermediate and/or secondary level;

Training in and/or experience teaching Art would be an asset;


DESIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND SUITABILITY:

Allow students to learn from you while playing alongside;

Use music theory as a tool to help reinforce practical and experiential learning;

Strong classroom management, planning and organizational skills;

Build student comfort as singers and musicians;

Use music as a link to social issues, science and math;

Ability to adapt and modify curriculum to meet a range of learning styles and abilities while incorporating cultural values and traditions into curricular components;

Ability to support and integrate self-regulation, character education, positive well-being and restorative practices in the classroom and school setting;

Ability to support the development of the core competencies;

Strong communication and interpersonal skills working with students, parents, administration, and other staff members;

Current knowledge in best literacy practices;

Ability to work as a member of a professional team and a willingness to participate in the total school

program in a time of rapid and continuing change;

Ability to work independently and motivate learners;

Knowledge and sensitivity to the culture and aspirations of Yukon First Nation students;

Willingness and ability to plan, organize and manage secondary students learning in other courses such as: introductory computer courses, social justice, careers, drama, media arts, etc;

Willingness to live, work and participate as a member of a small rural community;

Class IV driver’s license would be considered an asset.


ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

To be a Teacher in Yukon, you must be certified in another Canadian province/territory first.

Successful applicants will be required to undergo a security/vulnerable sector check.

Relocation may be available.

In communities outside Whitehorse, there may be affordable, shared, though sometimes modest, rental accommodation provided by Yukon Housing Corporation.
