This is a Highly Sensitive Position and a satisfactory Criminal Record Check, along with a clear Vulnerable Sector Check is required.

As per HRM Directive 518, this employment opportunity is restricted to Nunavut Inuit only.

Reporting to the Supervisor Children and Family Services, the Family Resource Worker will work as a support to the Family Services office in close concert with the Community Social Service Worker and other community resources to coordinate prevention programs for families, children, youth, elders and the community as a whole.

The Family Resource Workers are at the core of ‘family–centered’ community practice where daily interventions include: foster parent support, child welfare interventions, counseling, youth support, elders support as well as family violence interventions and liaising with schools and other service providers.

Service and compliance with legislation may be compromised as Community Social Service Workers may be unable to carry out their required obligations and work in a thorough manner without this additional support. This inadequate programming support poses as a risk to clients, staff and the Department of Family Services.

The incumbent should have knowledge of and experience implementing programs based on Inuit Societal Values; strong working knowledge of MS Office programs; strong record keeping and report writing skills; time management skills; excellent interpersonal and conflict resolution skills; crisis intervention skills; ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality and ability to work independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team.

The knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this job are usually obtained through completion of Grade 12 and 2 years related experience.

Applied Suicide Intervention Training (ASSIST) or ability to complete training within 6 months from date of hiring is also required.

The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktitut (Inuinnaqtun), English and French.

Fluency in more than one of Nunavut’s official language is an asset.

Equivalencies that consist of an acceptable combination of education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered.

Inuktitut/Inuinnaqtun requirement vary by Region.

Knowledge of Inuit language, communities, culture, land and Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit is an asset.
